Burglar Alarm
When it comes to protecting the people that matter most, burglar alarms are the most effective defence against intruders. Make sure you use a accredited burglar alarm company.
1. How to Find an Accredited Alarm Company?
Make sure that your alarm company is SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board) approved.
2. Bell Boxes
We recommend you make sure your alarm company installs audible alarm boxes that are mounted high and in full view of people who pass by your property. Two visible alarm boxes are better than one. Make sure the bell boxes are mounted at the front and rear of your home, high up to resist tampering.
3. Control your Burglar Alarm from your Smartphone
Setting your burglar alarm is made even easier with an option for an additional communication unit with high level encryption allowing you to view and control the protection of your property from an app on your smartphone. Keep your mind at peace, with the touch of a button you can confirm that your property is safe from anywhere around the world.
4. Types of Burglar Alarms
There are three types of burglar alarm, varying in capability and cost:
-
Monitored – Once triggered, an alarm company or designated key holder can check to ensure it isn't a false alarm. The police will typically respond to a burglar alarm if requested to do so by a monitoring company.
-
Unmonitored – This type, once activated, will sound a loud alarm designed to scare off an intruder and alert neighbours but they are reliant on someone such as a neighbour checking the house. The police are less likely to respond to an unmonitored alarm.
-
Auto Dialler – This system, once activated, alerts pre-programmed key holders with either a text or a phone call.
Make sure you check with your insurance company to know which alarm meets your specific insurance requirements.
5. Alarm All the Buildings on your Property
If you have an extensions to your home or businesses such as outbuildings, barns & guest houses remember to extend your burglar alarm coverage as well.
6. Become a Creature of Habit
We recommend you try to get into the habit of making sure the intruder alarm is set following your own course of action when locking up your home.
